Elves and Apple Trees

Elves love best of all to run

Through old orchards in the sun,

By gnarled and twisted apple trees

With crooked arms and knobbly knees,

With roots like humps, and leaves like hair,

And twigs that clutch and claw the air.

They help to hang the blossoms out

And in the fall, oh, never doubt

When apples shine above your head

It was some Elf who made them red!
