Vegetables

A carrot has a green fringed top;

A beet is royal red;

And lettuces are curious

All curled and run to head.

Some beans have strings to tie them on,

And, what is still more queer,

Ripe corn is nothing more or less

Than one enormous ear!

But when potatoes all have eyes,

Why is it they should be

Put in the ground and covered up—

Where it's too dark to see?
